Of course not. We're protesting because our rights and freedoms are under attack. People are being detained and abused in camps without due process. Masked agents are swarming our communities and executing innocent people in the street. MAGA is lying about us getting paid because everything they're doing is a lie. They aren't making America safer- they're putting us all in grave danger. The fact they would even attempt such a brazen lie about us getting paid indicates how dangerous this situation is.
Does protesting accomplish anything?
Yes- protests are critical. First, they empower our representatives. Politicians with swarms of people behind them are emoldened to fight. Second, protests dramatically impact perception. When a record number of people hit the streets to protest last year, Americans across the country understood that they were not alone. In fact, we are the vast majority. We have the power. The act of protesting reconnects us to that power. Try it!
Are the protests dangerous?
The coalition is deeply committed to peaceful and non-violent resistance. Violence against our brothers and sisters is the entire reason we're protesting in the first place! We take all steps possible to ensure a fun and family-friendly atmosphere at our events, including coordination with SDPD for crowd control, first aid volunteers, peacekeeping volunteers, and more. But we would be remiss not to acknowledge the nature of this political situation, and the risk of agitators or violence from the Federal government against citizens. So we urge everyone to participate at their own comfort level- even talking to your friends is important!
What's the overall strategy?
This is no longer a left/right political debate- this is an existential choice between Democracy and Fascism. The vast majority of Americans want a Democracy. The vast majority of Americans believe in freedom and fundamental rights. Therefore, the only chance MAGA and the Oligarchs have is to divide us. By uniting together like never before, we can take back the Congress and Senate in the upcoming election, and begin the process of returning our institutions to the people.
What can I do personally?
First, everything helps- even small acts like talking to a friend or honking as you pass a protest. This will need to be a movement of a million people doing a million different things. But it's extra helpful if you join a member group and get involved in the process of organizing, informing, and acting. Our coalition has initiatives to exercise power at all levels of society- socially, economically, and politically. To find your way, come to any of our events and you will meet wonderful people that can say more. Thank you!
How do I stay in the loop?
