Safety in Unity: Flock Out of Everywhere

Description

Across the country, people resoundingly are saying no to Flock and other government surveillance! But elected officials in many places, including San Diego, continue stonewall the people who they were elected to represent! What can we learn by taking stock of the wins and losses to build big picture strategy for the fight ahead?

As part of the National Week of Action Against ALPR, join TRUST SD Coalition to learn from fights across the country. We will hear from advocates from Austin, Los Angeles, and San Diego in conversation about their fight to rein in the mass proliferation of ALPRs and other mass surveillance tech.

Light food will be served!

Speakers include: Marina Roberts, Community Organizer with No ALPRs Coalition in Austin, Texas Shiu-Ming Cheer, Deputy Director of Immigrant and Racial Justice, California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC)

MARINA ROBERTS — Community organizer with the No ALPRs Coalition in Austin, Texas, a group of 40 and counting community organizations opposed to mass surveillance. Marina has spent over a year building power through that coalition to defend the privacy and freedom of Texans — and in 2025, they won: Austin ended its Flock contract. She brings over 25 years at the intersection of immigrant rights, criminal legal reform, and anti-state violence work, and previously served as Director of Movement Building and Strategic Partnerships at the National Immigration Law Center. She has taught at UCLA School of Law and serves on the boards of the Filipino Migrant Center and the UndocuBlack Network.
